Task:
Describe the relationship between Harry and the Nawab.
When Harry comes to visit Olivia, she gets many backround information about the Nawab and also about the rlationship between the Nawab and Harry. Harry characterizes the Nawab from his own experience: his commanding personality (“one doesn’t say no to such a person!, p.38,l.1) his boundless genorosity coupled with possessivness. The Nawab isn’t hard working because he just does the thing what a prince has to do. And Harry is the person who does everything what the Nawab says to him. In my opinion the Nawab is able to seduce Harry and to play the prince in front of the british. It should be noticed that even the Nawab treats Harry badly. He makes him a sort of prisoner in the palace and is rude in his presence (“He’s a very weak person. Because he is so flabby in his body I think. He is not a proper Englishman at all.”, p.45, ll.22-25) and often take his anger out on Harry.
The Nawab doesn’t want to send Harry back to England because he’s the only Englishman the Nawab can push around.
